Fontaines D.C. brengt een ingetogen mix op de piano uit van de absolute banger Starburster en… In Heaven (Lady in the Radiator Song) van David Lynch, het nummer dat hij maakte voor de film Eraserhead. Het werkt wonderwel.
Het nieuwe album van Lana del Rey belooft ook weer prachtig te worden. Haar tweede single Bluebird is weer ontwapenend mooi. Ik heb gewoon een gigantisch zwak voor haar stem, een goede strijkerpartij en de mondharmonica. Dan snap je wel dat ik hier helemaal week van word.
4chan is gehackt en komt misschien niet meer terug. Op de nieuwsblog Garbage Day staat een mooi stukkie over de ondergang van het beruchte forum. En dat op de dag dat OpenAI bekendmaakte aan een eigen sociaal medium te werken. Uit Garbage Day:
"The demise of the text-based, anonymous website that overran the rest of the internet happening the same week we discover the company that continues to promise a new internet may be actually trying to build one. A new internet not just full of autoplaying videos and verified user names, but one where a machine would sort through the human chaos we upload every second of the day. Chaos that, thanks to 4chan, we have to begrudgingly accept is somehow innate to what people will just do when they are safely anonymous behind a computer.
And so, yes, we did lose something this week. And it is almost certainly a better world without it. But it's also possible we look back one day and wish the internet still felt as messy and, more importantly, human as it did when 4chan ruled the world."
Onderstaande alinea komt uit het artikel The West is bored to death en zegt ook wel iets over de claim dat wij mensen straks, als AI ooit onze banen "efficiënter" maakt, meer tijd overhouden voor leuke dingen. Zoals wat? Doomscrollen?

Bon Iver in gesprek met BBC Radio 1 levert een prettig inkijkje op in het maakproces van SABLE, fABLE. Justin Vernon vergelijkt het SABLE-deel van het album met The Hobbit en het fABLE-deel met Lord of the Rings. Het is de introductie van een nieuw verhaal.
Jack Saunders vraagt Vernon naar een regel uit Short Story: "That January ain't the whole ain't the whole world". In het nummer is januari de metafoor voor winter, zegt Vernon. " Sometimes winter can be very bad. And I wanted to tell myself: it’s not gonna last forever. The spring will come. It’s a long ways away, but it’s not the whole world."
Waarop Saunders zegt: "January being the start of a new year… so horrid isn’t it? For the beginning of something new. What an awful way to start things." Inderdaad, wie heeft dat bedacht?
